While Olympia Host Lions serve all the greater Olympia area, our Steamboat Peninsula branch was formed specifically to serve the needs of the Steamboat peninsula -
Steamboat Lions meet monthly at the Griffin Fire Station. Join us the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. or call for more info. Guests always welcome!
Steamboat Lions focus their attention on the needs of the Steamboat area.
Current projects of the Steamboat Peninsula Branch include
Call to talk with a Steamboat Lion about joining this active group. 360 790-8667.
Griffin students get eye screening and a hearing check from Steamboat Lions each fall. Using state of the art equipment, Lions can quickly screen each child for vision and hearing problems so that parents are aware of possible issues and can schedule followup care by a medical professional.
Steamboat Lions also support the Lions Low Vision Resource Center in Olympia where Steamboat residents with low vision can find low vision aids at no cost.
Steamboat Lions hold drive-thru food drives every other month to help keep the Food Bank shelves full. Lions are on hand to accept nonperishable food and checks for the food bank - and often have a lttle treat for donors as well.
Most needed items include:
Canned Protein - tuna, chicken,
spam, beef stew, Salmon
Peanut Butter
Canned Fruit in natural juice
Canned Soups - meat and
vegetarian
Chili - meat and vegetarian
Boxed Cereal
Mac and Cheese
Canned Vegetables - low salt
Steamboat Lions support the Olympia Lions plastic recycling project to help keep plastic film out of our landfills and out of Puget Sound. Your CLEAN used plastic film products can be dropped off at the Griffin Fire Station #1.
Steamboat Lions transport the plastic to the Olympia Food Bank. At the Food Bank, Lions sort and package the clean plastic for shipment to Trex where it is recycled into outdoor furniture and decking.
For a complete list of the plastics we can accept, please see poster here
Such a fun project!
Steamboat Lions are delighted to present each Griffin 3rd grade student with their very own dictionary. Actually more than a dictionary, this little book includes important historic data, maps, and fun facts.
The dictionary is often the very first book a child has owned - they get to write their name in it and take it home.
Working with the teachers, Lions help the students discover how to find words, search the maps, or seek out interesting bits of information to share.
Your old eyeglasses can help someone else see. Donate your glasses on the Steamboat Peninsula at Island Market, 3403 Steamboat Island Road.
Steamboat Lions collect used eyeglasses for the Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Lacey. Glasses are sorted, cleaned, read for prescription and packaged for delivery to those who have no other way to get glasses.
We collect used hearing aids too. Just drop them in the eyeglass box at Island Market.
Each fall, Steamboat Lions take orders for these big 40 lb boxes of fresh Fuji apples and then deliver them to our customers right here on the Peninsula.
The Lions Apple Sale is our main fundraiser and helps to support Camp Leo for Children with Diabetes as well as our local Steamboat projects.
You can order by contacting any Lion or use the Order Apples button to get more info.
Steamboat residents looking for low vision aids like magnifying glasses, talking watches, or CCTV systems can get help at the Lions Low Vision Resource Center in Olympia. Call the Lions EyeLine for an appointment.
Steamboat Lions gathered up so much plastic last year that we earned a beautiful bench from Trex corporation. We donated the bench to the Lions Low Vision Resource Center in Olympia and it raised more than $1500 in a raffle.
Steamboat residents generously share their slightly used paper and plastic bags for re-use at the Thurston County Food Bank. Thanks to the Griffin Fire Department for providing a drop off location and for help in loading us up each week.
Griffin Foundation Picnic, St. Christopher's Blueberry Bash, Fry Cove cleanup or Halloween Trunk or Treat - you will find Lions out having fun and helping to bring the community together.
Lions take pride in our community and work to make community events a success. See you at a Steamboat event soon!
