A favorite project with students and Lions both is our annual distribution of a dictionary to each 3rd grader in Olympia and Griffin school districts.
Presented in person by a team of Lions, the dictionaries are often the very first book a child has owned - and they love them!
Lions present the book with an interactive lesson on features of the book. In return the teacher creates a writing lesson using the dictionary where the student writes a thank-you note to the club.
Kids need fuel to make the homework go better -- so Olympia Host has partnered with Evergreen Vista Apartments to provide snacks for the afterschool homework group.
We also host parties twice a year for students and their families - complete with barbecue grills and games.
Good vision is a key to student success so Olympia Host Lions help school nurses check the vision of thousands of students each year. Lions use hand held screening devices to identify possible vision problems. Students with possible problems get follow up testing by the school nurse and referral to an eye professional as needed.
